Costco Caters to the Carnivore Diet
By Chelsea Mandler
The Carnivore Diet buzzes through the food community with more questions than answers. This new diet craze requires no carbohydrate or sugar intake, which enables the body to enter a state of ketosis. Ketosis occurs after the body burns fat for energy instead of glucose
As a Costco member, the cost of this premium diet decreases, but not its quality. In most grocery budgets, due to the quality and price control that Costco offers its members. Four thick ribeye steaks, typically priced at $22 each in grocery stores, can be sold for under $70. That is a fantastic find!
Costco sells its meat, seafood, eggs, and dairy products in bulk, making it a win-win for both the customer and the company. Many people are discovering that the Carnivore Diet significantly improves their health, with rapid weight loss and regulating blood sugar levels.
Compliance with the strict rules of the Carnivore Diet requires the consumption of meat, including red, lean, or dark varieties, as well as poultry, eggs, seafood, fish, and a variety of dairy products, while eliminating vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, seeds, and nuts.
Skeptics wonder how the carnivore diet works, given the insufficient carbohydrate intake. An increased risk of kidney stones, gout, and osteoporosis may develop as the Carnivore Diet eliminates foods that lack essential nutrients, including carbohydrates. Additionally, LDL cholesterol levels may increase in individuals who consume red meat and certain dairy products in their diet.
Despite the lackluster research promoting the Carnivore Diet, people following the diet’s guidelines report more energy, weight loss, and a feeling of being satiated more quickly than when carbohydrates are present. Many dieters report improved metabolic changes, including lowered blood pressure, reduced belly fat, and enhanced cardiovascular health.
Further research is needed before the Food and Drug Administration recommends the Carnivore Diet, and caution is advisable for those new to this diet.
However, the diet continues to gain momentum, and Costco’s meat and dairy department can significantly contribute to reducing the grocery costs that the average consumer faces in today’s economy.
